Important for Applicants with Foreign Diplomas

In compliance with the procedure for recognition of acquired higher education degree, the applicants /Bulgarian or foreign citizens/ for studying in the Educational Qualification Degree of Master after completed Educational Qualification Degree of Bachelor who have graduated their higher education at foreign higher education institutions, must submit the following documents:

Application form /model/;

Diploma of completed higher education, its supplement and the European diploma supplement /if they have one) - original and certified copy;

Identity document which is returned to the applicant after verification and a document certifying any change of applicant`s name if there is such;

Document of paid administrative service fee - recognition of acquired higher education degree from foreign higher education institutions.

Required Documents:

The diploma of higher education and its supplement issued by the higher education institutions in non-member states of the European Union and in contracting states on the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education in the European Region /State Gazette No. 51 of 2000/, must be in compliance with the requirements of the relevant regulations of bilateral international treaties to which the Republic of Bulgaria is a party or of the Convention on Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents /State Gazette No. 45 of 2001/. In the absence of such regulations the recognition is carried out in compliance with the general procedure for legalizations, translations and certifications of documents and other papers.

The diploma of higher education and its supplement, except the European diploma supplement, issued by the higher education institutions in member states of the European Union and in contracting states on the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education in the European Region, must be accompanied by a translation into Bulgarian made by a competent person providing translations in compliance with Chapter Three of the Regulations on Legalization, Certification and Translation of Documents and Other Papers adopted by Act No. 184 of 1958.

The documents must be submitted to the University of National and World Economy by the end of June 2023 /for enrollment for the winter semester/ or by the end of November 2023 /for enrollment for the summer semester/. They can be submitted by the applicant in person or by an authorized representative with notarized power of attorney in the original. The documents must be submitted:

At the UNWE Centre for Document Reception - for Bulgarian citizens and citizens of member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area.

At the UNWE Foreign Students and European Diploma Supplements Division - for citizens of non-member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area.

After the documents have been submitted, within one month the UNWE prepares them and sends them to the National Information and Documentation Centre /NIDOC/ to verify the statute of the higher education institution that issued the diploma and the authenticity of the higher education diploma.

After receiving a response from the National Information and Documentation Centre /NIDOC/, the submitted documents that comply with the requirements will be reviewed by the UNWE Commission on the Recognition of the Acquired Educational Degree and Completed Certain Periods of Studies at Foreign Higher Schools.

On the basis of a report by the UNWE Commission on the Recognition of Higher Education Acquired Abroad and Periods of Study Completed at Foreign Universities, the Rector makes a decision on the recognition of higher education acquired abroad for the purpose of continuing studies at the UNWE.

If the applicant's higher education has already been recognized by the National Information and Documentation Centre /NIDOC/ in compliance with Article 6 of the Ordinance on the State Requirements for Recognition of the Acquired Educational Degree and Completed Certain Periods of Studies at Foreign Higher Schools, the Certificate /original and copy/ issued by NIDOC must be submitted with the application documents.

The admission to all specialities?of Educational Qualification Degree of Master is carried out through contest based on documents.

Bulgarian citizens, persons with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian, including holders of Bachelor's or Master's degree may also apply and be admitted to study in Educational Qualification Degree of Master at the University of National and World Economy.

The right to study in paid form of education in Educational Qualification Degree of Master is granted to persons whose average grade in the diploma of completed higher education is not worse than "Good".

Citizens of member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area may also apply and be admitted to study in Educational Qualification Degree of Master at the University of National and World Economy under the conditions and in compliance with the procedure for the admission of Bulgarian citizens.

The admission of foreign citizens for studying in the Educational Qualification Degree Master is regulated by the Ordinance on the State Requirements for the Admission of Students in the Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria - Section IV. The Foreign citizens can apply and study at the UNWE in the Educational Qualification Degree of Master:

In the implementation of intergovernmental agreements of educational, scientific and cultural exchange;

In compliance with the Acts of the Council of Ministers

Under the conditions of Article 95, Paragraphs 8 and 10 of the Higher Education Act.

The foreign citizens may also apply to study at the higher schools of the Republic of Bulgaria under the conditions and in compliance with the procedure for the admission of Bulgarian citizens, if they:

Have the status of permanent residents on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria;

Have the status of refugees;

Have Bulgarian citizenship certified in compliance with Decree No. 103 of the Council of Ministers of 1993 on the implementation of educational activities among the Bulgarians abroad. Foreign citizens admitted in compliance with the procedure of with Decree No. 103 of the Council of Ministers, Para. 4, Art. 1 and Decree No. 228 of the Council of Ministers 228, Para. 3 and graduates of Educational Qualification Degree of Bachelor may apply and study in Master's degree programmes under the conditions and in compliance with the procedure for the admission of Bulgarian citizens under Para. 11, Art. 3, Point 3 and Art. 4 of the Ordinance on the State Requirements for the Admission of Students in the Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Bulgaria.
